CMC Marine, a specialist in electrically operated stabilisation systems, has partnered with marine electronic instrument manufacturer Garmin.
The integration involves CMC Marine’s Display, Assistance and Logging Interface (DALI), which allows the company’s stabilisation and control systems to connect with Garmin’s multifunction displays (MFDs). Through this interface, users can monitor fin activity, select operating modes, and access performance data and alarms directly from Garmin MFDs in real time. For vessels equipped with CMC Marine’s Directa electric steering system, the integration also supports simplified rudder position management and operating mode selection.
The collaboration follows recent agreements with Dometic and Raymarine, as CMC expands its system integration capabilities across a wider range of onboard technologies for captains and crew.
Pietro Cappiello, vice-president of CMC Marine, says: “CMC Marine’s mission is to improve the user experience and safety on board yachts and superyachts, not least by making its products easier to use and increasingly integrated with on-board systems. The collaboration with Garmin to integrate our systems with Garmin MFDs aims to offer our customers, crews and owners a better cruising experience, with a view to ongoing innovation in the yachting industry.”
CMC Marine produces electrically operated stabilisation systems for yachts and superyachts ranging from 40 feet to over 80 metres. Its product range includes the Stabilis Electra and Waveless STAB electric fin stabiliser systems, Dualis electric thrusters and the Directa steering system, which the company describes as the first fully electric steering system in the marine sector.
The company has delivered more than 2,500 systems over the past 15 years. It operates from six sites across Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom, with 90 employees and a service network covering key yachting regions globally.
New software enables text-based AIS warnings to appear on Garmin chartplotters
Earlier this month (April 2025), Garmin also introduced a software update for select GPSMAP and Echomap chartplotters, adding a new AIS (Automatic Identification System) warning messaging feature. Included in the Q2 2025 marine software update, the feature is available as a free download via the ActiveCaptain mobile app or Garmin Express.
AIS is used in recreational boating to provide real-time data on the location, speed and heading of nearby AIS-equipped vessels. When connected to a Garmin chartplotter, these targets are displayed as an overlay on live charts or radar.
The update enables Garmin chartplotters to display AIS Message types 12 and 14, which are broadcast or addressed text messages from third-party licensed AIS broadcasters. These messages alert boaters to safety information such as floating objects or the approach of North Atlantic right whale management areas.
The feature is supported on GPSMAP 9000, 9500, 8600, 8600xsv, 8700, 7×3/9×3/12×3/16×3 and 10×2/12×2 series, and the ECHOMAP Ultra 2 and UHD2 touchscreen series. An AIS-capable device such as the AIS 800 transceiver, VHF 215 AIS marine radio or Cortex V1 is also required.
